RULES

ARTICLE 1
The competition is addressed to all lyric singers from all nationalities, without any age limits.

ARTICLE 2 – ARTICULATION OF THE COMPETITION
Competitors must perform 5 pieces from the opera repertoire of their choice, in the original language. Competitors are required to provide a pdf copy of the musical score of the sections performed by them to be used by the jury and the accompanying pianist.

THE COMPETITION IS DIVIDED IN FOUR PHASES

Eliminatory phase – Days 2, 3 and 4 of October
Competitors must perform one or more pieces (according to the jury’s request) of their choice amongst those presented;
The competitors admitted to the following phase (First Round) are the competitors who will have obtained the eligibility, chosen by the discretion of the jury.

First Round – 5th of October
The admitted candidates must perform one or two pieces (according to the jury’s request), chosen from those presented however not performed in the Eliminatory phase.

Semifinal – 6th of October
The admitted candidates must perform one or two pieces (according to the jury’s request), chosen amongst all those presented.

Final – 7th of October
Only A maximum of 6 candidates will be admitted to the final. The final consists of a public concert where each candidate must perform two pieces chosen from those presented. Each candidate will have the opportunity to rehearse with their pianist for the necessary amount of time.

In the Eliminatory and First Round phases the Jury reserves the right to listen to the program presented in whole or in part, possibly interrupting the competitor at the jury’s discretion. The jury’s judgment is unquestionable and irrevocable. The judges are not obliged to give any explanation to the candidates for their judgement, however the organization will collect the jury’s feedback and make it known privately to the participants on request.

ARTICLE 3 – LOCATION
The Competition will take place from the 2nd to the 7th of October at the Auditorium of the Civica Scuola di Musica Rebora and the Loggia di San Sebastiano in the town of Ovada.

ARTICLE 4 – ACCOMPANYING PIANISTS
The organization of the competition provides accompanying pianists for performing the rehearsals.
Competitors can use a pianist of their choice and at their own expense by making a request upon registration.

The “Margot Kaftal” special prize to the best soprano will be assigned by Madame Tiziana Fabbricini

ARTICLE 6 – PRIZES
– A lyric Gala concert with Bordighera Symphony Orchestra in summer 2019.
– Participation, for one of the finalists, in a production of Mascagni Opera Studio with its debut role
at the Goldoni Theater of Livorno
– A role in a production of Politeama di Catanzaro, in the season 2019
– A role in a production of the Theater of Varna (BG) in the season 2019
– A Gala Concert at the Music Academy of Versilia in 2019

SPECIAL PRIZES
A role in a production of the Theater of Rijeka (HR) in the season 2019, chosen by the General Director according to the repertoire’s suitability and candidates’ idoneity

Margot Kaftal Award to the best soprano, presented by Madame Tiziana Fabbricini

ARTICLE 7 – REGISTRATION
Registration is made by sending an e-mail to:januartes@gmail.com (Subject: Kaftal 2018)
The following documents must be attached:
– completed and signed registration form (downloadable at the bottom of this page)
– Updated CV
– copy of a valid identity document
– proof of payment of the registration fee

all documents must be received no later than 31st August 2018 24.00 GMT

ARTICLE 8 – REGISTRATION FEES
The registration fee is fixed at € 75.00 (seventy-five / 00 euros)and can be payed by bank transfer or Paypal.

ARTICLE 9 – RIGHTS
The participants disclaim any rights to access, usage and exploitation of the filming via radio and / or television footage of their performances and also to transmit or reproduce the songs they perform during the competition and authorize the organization to film videos and audio photos of every moment of the Competition and use them and distribute them at their own discretion without participants having any claim.

ARTICLE 10 – FINAL RULES
By registering for the competition the participant implicitly accepts all the rules contained in this announcement. In case of disputes the Italian text of the announcement will be considered authentic. The competent forum is Genoa.
